Food for All Food Hub Drive- Swan Hill District Health
This year Swan Hill District Health had a food drive for the Food for All Swan Hill Region- Food Hub. This food drive was held throughout the hospital to support this important local initiative. The Food for All Food Hub aims to support local community by providing flexible emergency food relief for those experiencing food insecurity. To organise the Food drive in Swan Hill District our Health Promotion team liaised with our communications team to promote the drive as well as establishing central drop off points for our staff. This was a great opportunity to educate about the Food Hub within our staff and to support the Food Hub in its great work in which Swan Hill District Health is a member agency of.
The Food drive provided a range of non-perishable food including; tins of vegetables and fruit, pasta sauce, pasta, snack foods, cereal, rice, long life milk and other miscellaneous items.
These items were provided to the Food Hub to assist people in the Swan Hill Community that are faced with food insecurity. Swan Hill has high rates of food insecurity in comparison to the Victorian average. This may be a combination of geographic location, rising costs of living in particular the cost of groceries.
